Made in America Panel Hopes That Obama Visit to Texas Taught Him About Free Enterprise

Neal Asbury opened his nationally syndicated “Neal Asbury’s Made in America” show on Radio America (now on 44 stations) by wondering why of all the states President Obama visited to promote jobs, he selected Texas, which is pro- business, pro-growth, and pro-entrepreneurship – the opposite of what Obama preaches for bigger government.

“Texas gets it. They promote a small government and creating good jobs. Tennessee and South Carolina also get it. States like Illinois and California don’t get it,” opined Neal.

Neal’s first guest was Congressman Randy Weber, a successful small businessman and proven conservative who represents the Fourteenth Congressional District of Texas.

Weber noted that Texas has created more jobs during the past 10 years than all other states combined. They also produce more oil than the next four oil-producing states combined. Their unemployment rate is at 6.4 percent, while California’s unemployment rate is at 9.7 percent.

“There’s a reason why 1,300 people a day are moving to Texas. We are pro-business and pro-growth and have created jobs – something that President Obama doesn’t seem to understand. The U.S. has spent $11,000,000 for every Green job created, while Texas is creating jobs as a result of our natural gas exploration,” said Weber, who added that Obama’s failure to approve the Keystone Pipeline is another indication of his misunderstanding of the relationship between energy and job creation.

Neal and co-host Dr. Rich Roffman segued to a discussion of the economic disaster when immigration meets healthcare costs. A report found that about 99 percent of those who used Emergency Medicaid were determined to be immigrants that entered this country illegally.

“This doesn’t take into account the many thousands of patients in the U.S. who lack health insurance but who need long-term care wind up lingering in hospitals for many weeks, months, or even years because the current health care system doesn’t offer workable solutions for them. There is a term for these people: “permanent patients,” because they have no relatives, insurance, or an established address where they can go once released,” said Neal.

Neal noted that to pay for the millions of dollars spent by hospitals, who aren’t allowed to move patients into more cost effective long–term facilities or nursing homes, the burden falls on every American worker.

“This is the sick part of Obamacare. Illegal aliens don’t pay taxes and don’t have insurance so they get their healthcare for free. This sends a message to other illegal aliens that they can come to this country and get free healthcare, food stamps and other benefits without paying a penny,” proposed Dr. Roffman. He added that Obamacare is so confusing that the federal government is spending $150 million to teach people how to fill out the 60 page Obamacare application.

Joining the show was Ray Keating, chief economist for the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Council, who predicted a brewing economic revolution in energy in the U.S. as natural gas is setting new standards in innovation while creating jobs and attracting investment.

The final guest on Made in America was Sam Kazman, general counsel for the Competitive Enterprise Institute.

“Obamacare is a catastrophe for small business. What can you say about a program where Nancy Pelosi proclaimed that we have to pass this law to see what’s in it. People know what’s in it and they don’t like it,” said Kazman.

As a result, Kazman is involved in a lawsuit being brought by 33 states that opted out of Obamacare and its mandate to create insurance exchanges. At the core of the lawsuit is an IRS ruling that forces states to participate in the employer mandate “What’s happening is that the employers are cutting back hours to a 30 week for their employees so they fall beneath the employer mandate
that would force them to adopt Obamacare. Already insurance premiums are rising since companies don’t know what risks they will
face for coverage. We have a strong case and we have many people rooting for us to succeed,” concluded Kazman.

Neal and Dr. Roffman concluded the show by returning to the topic of Americans no longer striving to fulfill their dreams.

“This nation’s leadership picks winners and losers. That’s not free enterprise. Most of our most successful entrepreneurs built large
enterprises without government help. Instead, this administration is channeling resources to the few to support the political elite. That’s cronyism,” said Neal.

“Natural gas production is up 30 percent; to the point that 20 energy companies have applied to the Department of Energy for applications to export natural gas. Some 91 percent of the new companies formed to explore natural gas are small businesses with
less than 20 employees. It’s a tremendous job creator, yet Obama continues to be less than friendly to carbon-based energy options, allowing extreme environmentalists to influence his energy policy,” said Keating.

A well-known example of cronyism is the Fisker Karma, which according to Dr. Roffman, received $529 million from the Department of Energy for their plug-in car. A new report found that it cost Fisker $660,000 to build each Karma, which are being built in Finland, instead of the U.S.

“Now Obama, who criticized the GOP for closed door meetings, has met with energy executives beyond closed doors. Wonder what that’s all about. They are probably not talking about Vehicle Production Group, which received $50 million in government funding to build vans for the handicapped. They announced that they are closing and with it, any jobs they were supposed to create,” noted Dr. Roffman.

Each week Neal Asbury’s Made in America provides Neal’s insights into the week’s top news stories and their impact on the worlds
of entrepreneurship, small business ownership and the overall economy. Neal’s analysis, together with co-host Dr. Richard Roffman, a veteran 30-year publisher with extensive domestic and international experience, takes a non-biased approach based on real life experience in business as an American manufacturer and exporter.
